Why we dream? Is still one of the behavioral science unanswered question? Researchers have offered many theories—memory consolidation, emotional regulation, threat simulation—but a unified one remains, well, a pipe dream. Nevertheless, people continue mining their nighttime reveries for clues to their inner lives and for their creative insight.
Dreams are successions of images as generally thought, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during sleep The content and purpose of dreams are not definitively understood, though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, as well as a subject of philosophical and religious interest, throughout recorded history Scientists believe that, in addition to humans, certain birds and the majority of mammals also dream.
Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep as well. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable.
Dreams can last for a few seconds, or as long as twenty minutes. People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has about 3 to 5 dreams per night, but some may have up to 7 dreams in one night. The dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full 8-hour night sleep, approximately, two hours of it is spent dreaming.
The Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud, who developed the discipline of psychoanalysis, wroteextensively about dream theories and interpretations. He explained dreams as manifestations of our deepest desires and anxieties, often relating to repressed childhood memories or obsessions. In The Interpretation of Dreams, Freud developed a psychological technique to interpret dreams and devised a series of guidelines to understand the symbols and motifs that appear in our dreams.
In modern times, dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious mind. The events in dreams are generally considered outside the control of the dreamer, with the exception of lucid dreaming, where the dreamer is self-aware. Dreams can at times make a creative thought occur to the person or give a sense of inspiration. Dreams can have varying natures, such as frightening, exciting, magical, melancholic, adventurous, or sexual, and sometime-as I believe> indication of the future events. Let me qualify my above statement bit logically. We as human beings, comprises of three essential parts:
• Body> comprising bones and flesh. Bones composed of minerals found in the world like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, Fluoride and Copper.
• Mind> having two parts:
• Conscious mind.
• Unconscious mind and it takes over the staring when our conscious mind goes to rest, and even control our heartbeat, food consumption etc.
• Soul> the most important part but often ignored in our daily working.

As per research, one daily gets thoughts numbering from 12000 to 72000 thoughts; out of which 90% of the thoughts are linked to the past, where as only 10% are the new thoughts. It is here; in 10% that sometimes one gets the indication/guidance about some future event or solution to a problem. Some time we get a voice from inside > guiding us. Modern science refers to this “voice” as our subconscious mind. And it is our Subconscious through which our soul guides us> having access to the ultimate> even the end result of what is there in the intentions/ planning and you haven’t yet started it. The “voice” we all have inside our heads. Though, some don’t accept and recognize the Role our Soul plays in it sometimes but it is fact that Our Soul is a link which you can always use for guidance; example is “Istikhara”, which we as Muslims pray to get guidance when we are not very sure about the outcome.
Scientific research has undeniably revealed that many dynamic thought leaders, scholars and other highly intelligent individuals share similar brainwave frequencies and display distinct peak brain states while engaged in mental tasks. Back in the 1920s, diabetes was considered to be one of the more significant diseases, as there was very little anyone could do to stop the progression of the disease in those days. Dr. Frederick Bunting had spent years attempting to discover a cure through countless experiments and research. He made very little progress, until one night, while thoroughly exhausted, he fell asleep. While asleep, he came upon the idea of formulating insulin from residue derived from a deteriorating duct of dogs. The crucial piece of information escaped his conscious mind, but his subconscious was able to sort through years of research and present the one thing that he had been looking for…Now thanks to the solution borne from his subconscious mind, millions have benefited from Dr. Bunting’s amazing discovery.
Imagine if both your conscious mind and your subconscious mind along with Your Soul worked in harmony as an organized, synchronized unit, granting you a hyper awareness and the ability to consciously access the things that you haven’t been able to access all your life.
The dreams can also be programmed to some extent. Some of the friends may not agree but it is a fact that you can do it; and some of you may already be doing it by getting guidance in dreams through - “Istikhara” By learning, as how to control the dreams, you’ll have the power to transform practically any aspect of your life that you’ve been unhappy with… You’ll learn the secrets to unlocking the true, limitless potential of your mind and soul.
Some Facts about Dreams are:
• Psi time operates during sleep, quiet hours of consciousness and during alpha/theta/delta meditation. Some of the dreams that you recall may appear to have gone on for hours yet in actual time they may have only taken a few minutes or seconds
The different frequencies at which brain functions and where you can achieve different States of mind are as under:
• Beta State. In this state, activity takes place when a person is fully awake. It’s frequency is 14 Hz per second and above.
• Alpha State. This state Occurs when a person relaxes and it’s rhythm is between 7.5 Hz to 13 Hz brain waves per second -
• Theta state. It’s a slow activity and takes place at a brain frequency of 3.5 Hz to & 7.5 Hz per second. It is here that one starts dreaming
• Delta State. This is the state when a person is?sleeping. Its frequency rate is 1.5 to 4 cycles per second. Some of the dreams takes place in this state.

3. During the dreaming state your awareness is focused in another reality that is in every way as permanent and valid as the physical reality universe. During sleep only a small amount of your energy is focused in the physical field enough to maintain the bodily functions only.
4. The events in the dream reality are as meaningful as the events in your physical world and indeed are interrelated. One affects the other and vice versa. This is why it is possible (and extremely easy) to program up dreams which have an almost immediate effect in your physical universe.
5. One of the easiest and most effective types of dream that you can pre-program relates to your physical health. Sometimes a correctly programmed dream can cause almost miraculous improvements to your health in as little as 12 hours.
6. A person who has problems in the physical world may subconsciously attempt to solve them by playing out various possible solutions on a dream basis. Consciously the individual may be unaware of these various potential dream solutions but when the correct solution has evolved, this will then play out in his physical world and physical events will soon occur that solve the problem.
7. During an overnight dream state a negative destructive attitude can be changed instantly to a positive constructive one. These types of dreams appear most often when the self feels a sense of desperation and opens up deep subconscious channels that invoke these ‘healing’ dreams. It is now known that dreams of this nature can be consciously evoked at will in a surprisingly simple manner by repetitive suggestions prior to sleep.
8. Occasionally you might have noticed an annoying health condition that has gone on for months. Suddenly, one morning you wake up …and it has gone. This is almost certain the result of a dream. These healing dreams are brought on by repetitive self-suggestion prior to sleep.
9. If you wish to recall your dreams then simply give yourself pre-sleep suggestions that you will wake up immediately after your first one or two dreams, or maybe immediately after your last dream.
The Dream Programming Technique is extremely simple…
After you go to bed at night and are fully relaxed, feel harmony within your mind, body and soul. Recite the Name of ALLAH who is most Beneficent and Merciful ( BIsmillah Arahman Araheem) with Darood e Pak 3 times, and thereafter say to yourself (over and over)……. I request for dreams tonight that will solve my problem of ——-.
For example:
• If your problem is one of unhappiness and discontent, you would repeat over and over……… I want to have dreams tonight that cure my unhappiness and make me feel happy and contented……..
• If your problem is one of a general feeling of unwellness then you would repeat over and over…….. I want to have dreams tonight that make me feel fit, well and bursting with energy…….
• If your problem is one of negativity then you would repeat over and over…….. I request for dreams tonight that make me feel positive and contented……….
Joseph D Silva also described another technique for the purpose, which is known as “Glass of Water Technique”. It is described as follows, “Just before going to sleep, take a glass of Water, raise your eye balls to 40 degree above, drink about half of the glass suggesting your subconscious to have dream about a specific purpose and go to sleep. You’ll have dream for the purpose”.
In the end, I have to submit to my readers that our dreams are linked to our subconscious (also storing memories of past) and a percentage of dreams are indications and guidance for those who can interpret and understand the messages of soul through your 6th sense. There are a number of examples in the history where things have been indicated beforehand to people; and therefore one must never ignore these dreams, voices, thoughts and the feelings given by the subconscious and the soul.
